Welcome to CM Equine Appraisals and Services!
An equine appraisal is a unique service created to establish past, present, or future market values of horses for purposes such as charitable donations, insurance policies and claims, divorce, estate settlements or civil or criminal litigation. A professional report is created for each equine appraised.
CM Equine Appraisals is an Accredited Member of the American Society of Equine Appraisers and must adhere to the nationally recognized Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) guidelines (the same standards used in real estate appraisals). CM Appraisals can appraise any discipline or breed, but specialize in the Western disciplines. An appraiser can also testify in court as an expert witness in equine related cases.
The most common need for an equine appraiser is for IRS Form 8283 which states “taxpayers are required to obtain a qualified appraisal for donated property for which a deduction of more than $5,000 is claimed.” This means any owner wishing to donate an equine to a 5013(c) organization and use the donation for tax obligation purposes, must have the horse appraised by an approved appraiser and the appraiser must sign the IRS form 8283.
